Food

These two choices are difficult because I love more or less all  food. Since I am rather hungry at the moment. I consider myself a food lover, I have always enjoyed eating very much. However, 16 years ago I decided not to eat meat anymore. At that time it was not about animal rights or health, it was only that one day  I didn't feel like it anymore. Today I feel that is one of the best decisions I have made.
The idea of food is complex since there are a number of options that are simply delicious. For example, I love nuts, all sorts, especially mixed together with raisins or cranberries. I also love olives, the bitter ones in particular. I think if I have to think of a homemade dish, I'd go for a vegetarian lasagna made with aubergine, zuchinni and tomato sauce. It's simply wonderful.
On the sweet side my favorite is chocolate. However, I don't like fruit any less. My favorite are chirimoya, banana and mango. I also love watermelon.
I really liked it when the seasons were more marked and you had certain foods in one period of the year, like tomatoes or strawberries only in the summer and celery in the winter. Now we have everything year in year out. It is such a good reflection of a consumerist society.

I think the connection with food is very important. I really believe we are what we eat (and what we drink!) I think food is strongly related with our emotions and we eat more or less depending on how we feel.

Write about your favorite food or food in particular.
How often you eat it, why you like it or anything you find relevant to mention.

Something interesting

Something interesting
Today I will tell you about something interesting I am doing. I have always liked flowers but I became interested in plants and vegetation a few years back when I started reading about genetically modified crops in Mexico, India and the USA and how some people got ill because of the strong pesticides they use. Anyway, this semester I joined the CFG called  “the abc of agronomy” here in FAU every Wednesday. I have found it really interesting because we have looked at things like the physiology of plants, the important of the ground (soil), entomology, fruit growing and others. For me it is really interesting because I hardly remember photosynthesis from school. In general I love learning new things.  At the moment, I am also learning Japanese and enjoying it. I studied Japanese when I was around 20 and this year decided to resume it. I am finding it difficult but a real nice challenge. I practice with duo lingo every day and go to class once a week.
How about you?
Write about something interesting you are doing at the moment. Anything goes.
Say
When you started
How you became interested
How often you do it/practice, etc.

Friday 11 website

I love the internet. I love the fact that I can learn about anything I am interested in or just ask about particular things. I spend some time on the internet every day. I use google a lot, I use gmail, youtube and facebook sometimes, etc.

I am interested in politics even though I despise most politicians. Politics is present everywhere and in all areas, and I suppose I became interested the day I realized how Education was affected by political decisions. How educational research to a large extent was determined by the administration at the time.

A few years back, I was reading about genetically modified food and found a website by chance. The site is www. democraciadirecta.cl (although at the moment it has some issues with hackers, I think). I liked it immediately because it showed news about communities and ordinary people, about decisions taken and affecting a lot of citizens. I like to know about the people in general and not just about those around me. I like to see articles about issues that do not appear in mass media. I visit this website once a week and look at interesting articles. Another website I like is www. ciperchile.cl. This website shows a lot of serious journalistic research that would never appear on TV. A friend of mine told me about this site by chance. I visit it every two weeks more or less.

Write about a website you like. Why you like it. How you discovered it and how often you visit it.

Santiago

We all have different ideas of the ideal city. I have been lucky enough to travel around Chile and elsewhere and I feel all cities have their positive and negative aspects.
I feel Santiago has a lot of potential to become a great place to live. Unfortunately, at the moment there are a few problems to solve. Pollution is a great issue form April to August, and this is a real pity when you have such beautiful mountains you could look at but you cannot see in the winter.  I also feel streets and transport in general are designed to suit car drivers and not pedestrians or cyclists. I think this really needs to change. Moreover, we definitely need more parks and less buildings. Last but not least, I find Santiago a really expensive place in general.
On the upside I think in Santiago there are many places you can go to depending on the mood you are in. The area around plaza Brazil or Lastarria offers several things to do.

I love Quinta Normal park, and strongly recommend it to everyone. I also really like the area around Estación Central and Vega Central. In particular the last one where you see a lot of color and there is a lot of noise. Mostly human voices.

Write about your vision of Santiago
What you like
What you don't like
What needs to change
Include anything else you find relevant.
